An
adventure created by nature with fun, serenity, beauty, mystery,
challenge, history and education
all wrapped up in one! Lost River is enjoyed each year by thousands
of guests of all ages.
Your exploration of Lost River can be as easy or as ambitious as
you choose to make it. During your ¾ mile adventure you can
choose to stay on the boardwalk, or accept the challenge of caves
such as The Dungeon and The Lemon Squeezer; it’s up to you!
Many people ask us what is the best time of the year to come. Our
reply is:
Spring – Offers some of the
best views with no leaves on the trees The water over the falls is
usually high from spring thaw.
Some caves still have ice – some so much they cannot be opened
yet. There are many seasonal waterfalls coming in from the sides
of the gorge due to spring thaw which are not there during summer
or dryer
weather. Photography is probably at its best.
Summer – Usually cooler
in the gorge by at least 10 degrees and a breeze. All caves are
generally open during this season. Flora
and plant life is spectacular, lush and green. It is very beautiful,
and a great time for picture taking.
Early fall- Days are brisk, foliage
color is spectacular and there is a wonderful smell of fall in the
air.
Great time for fall foliage photography.
Late fall – If the water
level is up, again many waterfalls coming in from sides due to heavy
rains. May have days where there is snow on the boardwalks.
Many of the leaves are off the trees which expands view area for picture taking.
So– Every time of the season at Lost
River is beautiful. We have never had anyone say any different. Come see for
yourselves!
